Being a city dominated by the automotive industry, there is a good presence of Japanese companies in the area. No doubt the visiting Japanese businessmen miss the food they can find back home, and there are several good restaurants that cater to their needs. A good thing for us really! Here are some of the best Japanese restaurants in Detroit that we recommend.
Ajishin
42270 Grand River Ave Novi, MI 48375
(248) 380-9850
Arguably the best udon this side of the Mississippi! Seriously though possibly the best udon in the entire mid-west. You can’t go wrong with any of them but the Kamogawa is one of my favorite. Their curry rice is one of the best and their lunch special of the day is always spot on. The downside is there is always a wait, so order ahead and take it to go or get there early! They are closed on Tuesdays and close between 2:30 and 5:00 for dinner prep so keep that in mind.
Shiro
43180 W 9 Mile Rd Novi, MI 48375
(248) 348-1212
This white mansion built in the 1920’s, which is allegedly haunted, is home to Shiro Restaurant. Their traditional and Japanese fusion offerings are a favorite to many locals. Dine in the sushi bar area on the first floor if you are looking for a quick lunch, otherwise they have formal dining areas through out the first and second floors of the mansion. Is the mansion really haunted? Who knows, but there has been stories about the Shiro staff setting the tables at night for next day’s service and they return the next day to find the silverware neatly put away in the cabinets. Haunted or not, their food is something to scream about!
Noble Fish
45 E 14 Mile Road Clawson, Michigan 48017
(248) 585-2314
Some people swear by this place. If you’re in a quick need to satify your hunger for sushi, Noble Fish may be the perfect place for you. If you were just passing by it may look like a Japanese grocery store, and it is but they also have a eat-n-go dining area and they serve some of the freshest sushi in town.
